Direction-sensitive dark matter search results in a surface laboratory

چکیده
We developed a three-dimensional gaseous tracking device and performed a directionsensitive dark matter search in a surface laboratory. By using 150 Torr carbontetrafluoride (CF4) gas, we obtained a sky map drawn with the recoil directions of the carbon and fluorine nuclei, and set the first limit on the spin-dependent WIMP (Weakly Interacting Massive Particles)-proton cross section by a direction-sensitive method. Thus, we showed that a WIMP-search experiment with a gaseous tracking device can actually set limits. Furthermore, we demonstrated that this method will potentially play a certain role in revealing the nature of dark matter when a low-background large-volume detector is developed.

Dark Matter Search with Direction Sensitive Scintillators
We have carried out the dark matter search with a 116g direction-sensitive stilbene crystal in Kamioka Observatory. With the crystal fixed to the earth, we searched the modulation of the light output. No modulation signal was found due to the small size of the detector crystal and the higher background rate yet to be eliminated. However, it demonstrated the effectiveness of the method of direct...
متن کاملDark Matter Search with Direction Sensitive Scintillator
A direction sensitive dark matter detector using organic crystals is being developed. It exploits the anisotropic scintillation efficiency of organic crystals with respect to the direction of nuclear recoils relative to crystallographic axes. A variation of about 7% was observed in the scintillation efficiency of carbon recoils in a stilbene crystal for recoil energies of 30 keV to 1MeV. We hav...

The First results of the Tokyo dark matter search programme using a 21-g lithium fluoride bolometer are presented. The background spectrum was measured in the surface laboratory. We derive an exclusion plot for the spin-dependently coupled Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) cross section.
متن کاملCharge amplification concepts for direction-sensitive dark matter detectors
Direction measurement of weakly interacting massive particles in time-projection chambers can provide definite evidence of their existence and help to determine their properties. This article demonstrates several concepts for charge amplification in time-projection chambers that can be used in direction-sensitive dark matter search experiments. We demonstrate reconstruction of the “head-tail”ef...
متن کاملA Microlensing Search for Cold Molecular Clouds in Virgo
We report preliminary results from a first season of photometric monitoring of 600 quasars behind the Virgo galaxy cluster with the aim of detecting microlensing by the cluster dark matter. Our project is sensitive to dark objects of surface mass densities down to ∼ 20 g cm. We are thus capable of detecting diffuse objects, such as cold molecular clouds, unlike all Galactic microlensing surveys...
